Mechanical Drafting Classes and Courses Information
Mechanical drafting is a specialist profession based on technical drafting and computer-aided drafting (CAD) that concentrates on blueprints of machines and machine components used by engineers. Drafting courses can help students develop basic drafting techniques, as well as knowledge of machine components and manufacturing processes.
Essential Information
Courses in drafting are offered at a number of CAD Centres across India as part of certificate programs in mechanical drafting, design technology and computer-aided drafting and design. Programs and courses typically include a combination of traditional classroom coursework and lab work, which helps students become familiar with drafting equipment, software and techniques.
Some of the most common concepts in mechanical drafting include:
- 2D and 3D drafting
- Workplace safety
- Green buildings
- Digital visualization
- Robotics
- Blueprint reading
- Engineering materials
About Drafting Training
This core mechanical drafting course teaches students to draw, interpret and present orthographic and isometric designs of mechanical products and their individual components. An advanced graphic design and communication course, mechanical drafting focuses on dimensioning and tolerances, sectioning, fastenings and pictorial drawings. Mechanical drafting is typically a 1-semester course, but some schools add a second semester, which goes into further instruction regarding areas like mechanical and structural detailing, contour mapping, electrical-piping-fluid power schematic and kinematics.
